The Ranch
In 2022, MCSC and Peninsula Films recognised there were stories that needed to be listened to. Those in our community who are experiencing homelessness. Those experiencing hardship. Local people. These stories have formed this documentary. MCSC, with our partners Southern Peninsula Community Support, have operated The Ranch crisis accommodation since 2021, and has done so with no Government funding.
UPDATE APRIL 2026
The Ranch, after five years of generous support of its owners it is being closed in mid-April and its residents are going to find a new place to rebuild their lives. We established an Emergency Transition Fund to support them in this period of change. Thanks to incredible community support it raised over $12,000 to provide for:
- moving and storage costs
- short term accommodation
- foster care for their pets
- essential living expenses
- basic furniture and whitegoods.
The fund will be used over the coming weeks and months as needed for each resident supported by our team, thank you.

Ranch 2.0
In May 2025 the Mornington Community Support Centre was generously provided a block of seven, two bedroom units, in central Mornington, to be used for crisis accommodation, the only such facility on the Mornington Peninsula.
The Units were purchased by two Foundations: Payton and Upotipotpon, and are provided to MCSC under a five year lease, at no cost. The building quickly became known as the Ranch 2.0.
It now operates as crisis accommodation, operated by MCSC.
You can read about the incredible community led effort of the Peninsula’s Rotary groups, local businesses, schools and volunteers that came together to renovate the complex in 2025 enabling a safe and welcoming space for new residents in this booklet (PDF).
